Выражение «картина Репина «Приплыли» стало настоящей идиомой, которой характеризуют патовую ситуацию. Картина, ставшая частью фольклора, действительно существует. Вот только Илья Репин никакого отношения к ней не имеет.
Картину, которую народная молва приписывает Репину, создал художник Соловьев Лев Григорьевич (1839-1919). Называется полотно «Монахи. Не туда заехали». Написана картина была в 1870-х, и до 1938 года поступила в Сумской художественный музей.
В 1930-х годах картина висела на музейной выставке рядом с полотнами Ильи Репина, а посетители решили, что и это полотно принадлежит великому мастеру. А потом ещё и присвоили этакое «народное» название – «Приплыли».
В основе сюжета картины Соловьева – сцена купания. Кто-то ещё раздевается на берегу, кто-то уже в воде. Несколько женщин на картине, прекрасных в своей наготе, заходят в воду. Центральные фигуры картины – оторопевшие от неожиданной встречи монахи, лодку которых принесло к купальщицам коварное течение.
Молодой инок застыл с вёслами в руках, не зная, как ему реагировать. Пожилой же пастырь улыбается – «Дескать, приплыли!» Художник удивительным образом сумел передать эмоции и изумление на лицах участником этой встречи.
Лев Соловьёв – художник из Воронежа – широкому кругу поклонников живописи мало знаком. По дошедшим о нём сведениям был он человеком скромным, трудолюбивым, философского склада. Любил писать бытовые сцены из жизни простых людей и пейзажи.
До нашего времени работ этого художника дошло совсем немного: несколько этюдов в Русском музее, две картины в галерее г. Острогожска и жанровая картина «Сапожники» в Третьяковке.
